Pediatric Dental Services

Children may sometimes need restorative dentistry to repair their teeth and protect their smiles. Dr. John uses white or tooth-colored restorations or stainless steel to restore decayed or damaged teeth. He’s also qualified to provide dental sedation and hospital dentistry for children with special needs or anxiety.

Here are some specialized restorative services we provide for your child’s smile.

White Fillings

Made with composite resin material, white fillings restore the cavities left by tooth decay without impacting the aesthetics of your child’s smile. These fillings are durable and protect your little one’s baby teeth.

Zirconia Crowns

Tooth-colored zirconia crowns completely cover a damaged tooth all the way to the gumline. A zirconia crown is a great option for restoring your child’s tooth without compromising aesthetics since the crown closely mimics your little one’s tooth in shape, size, and color.

Stainless Steel Crowns

Silver crowns provide durability for teeth that take the brunt of the chewing force. Dr. John may recommend a silver crown for a back tooth.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a quick and painless option for stopping tooth decay in its tracks. It’s a clear liquid comprised of silver that kills decay-causing bacteria and fluoride that helps protect the tooth against recurring decay.

Dental Sedation

It can be hard to visit the dentist if you feel nervous or have special needs. Dr. John offers different levels of dental sedation for our littlest patients who need a little extra assistance getting through their treatment procedures.

Also called nitrous oxide, laughing gas is a mild sedation that uses breathable gas to help our patients relax and feel at ease during dental procedures. This is a mild sedation and the only type we use in our Media dental office. Laughing gas works quickly and doesn’t leave lingering side effects.

Hospital Dentistry

Children with severe anxiety, complex medical conditions, extensive treatment, or special healthcare needs may benefit from having their procedures completed with hospital sedation. In this environment, Dr. John can complete your child’s treatment while they completely relax and “sleep” through their appointment.

Phase I Orthodontic Treatment

Around the ages of seven or eight years old, Dr. John will evaluate your child for early or interceptive orthodontic treatment. When a child is dealing with crowded teeth or complicated bite issues like a severe overbite, underbite, or crossbite, orthodontic treatment can be beneficial in phases.

During phase one, Dr. John might use a few braces, an expander, space maintainers, other orthopedic appliances, or a combination of these tools to make space for adult teeth, correct a bite, or both.

Early orthodontic treatment takes advantage of children’s growth to correct bite concerns or make space for incoming adult teeth, which makes phase two orthodontic treatment easier around age 12 or 13.
